I photographed this image at McKenzie Beach in Tofino. There was a storm that was taking place and the ocean had carved out a giant piece of the beach.
There was actually about two feet of beach missing leaving about a two foot drop from the "beach" from the water. As I was walking along I saw this beautiful tree with a small forest behind it that had been carved out from the ocean water pulling back across the sand.
All the darkness in the image is actually crushed mussel shells embedded in the sand. The white in the "sky" is really crushed barnacles giving the image a celestial feel.
The ocean was still churning and that is why you can see the water at the bottom of the image.
I photographed this image upside down as I was too scared to step into the water as I really had no idea how deep it was. I only got two shots of this image and the next wave washed it all away.
